Korka

Prevent food waste with fermentation and distillation

KORKA is a wine and food fermenter that with simple change is transformed into a distiller of alcoholic beverages. Fermentation has been used for food preservation for thousands of years and is a self-going chemical process that increases the expiration time of fruits and vegetables thanks to the healthy substances that are created. Both wine fermenting and liquor distilling are well used ways of making use of overripe fruits. The container is a 15 liter stainless pot that can be used for everyday cooking, with a fermentation lock integrated in the lid. The fermenter is transformed into distiller by adding an immersion heater and a condenser. Energy efficiency is achieved with an insulating cork cylinder for the container, a heat-regulating thermostat and an air cooled condenser.
